Total taxable valuation up in Greene County

Paton sees large increase due to Bauer Built activity

The trend of increasing taxable valuations in Greene County continued in 2013, particularly in the city of Paton and the Paton-Churdan school district. According to Pam Olerich, real estate and tax coordinator in the county auditor’s office, total valuation in the city of Paton increased 37.18 percent, up to $6,677,300. Total valuation in the P-C school district grew 4.63 percent, up to $106,035,870.

County assessor Linda Spearman said the increase in valuation in Paton comes from an addition to the facility owned by Iron Man LLC (Bauer Built Manufacturing, now owned by John Deere) that was added to the property tax roll in 2013. The facility is valued at about $2.2 million and lies on the Paton city limit.

Olerich reported to the board of supervisors Jan. 7 that the county’s overall taxable valuations (rural and urban combined) increased 2.79 percent from the previous year, with total taxable valuation for the county at $599,980,565.

The total for all cities combined increased 1.83 percent up to $163,175,427. The increase in Jefferson is 1.14 percent, up to $117,856,932.

The county’s school districts saw the same average 2.79 percent increase as the county. Taxable valuation in the Greene County district (Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene combined) is $438,387,657, with $311,280,653 being in the J-S district and the remaining $127,107,004 in the East Greene district. (A small portion of the East Greene district lies in Boone County’s Amaqua and Union Townships. Those figures aren’t available yet, but will increase the EG total.)
